Cordara Harper, a native of Cove City, North Carolina, serves as Secretary for the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) and is the Director of Choral Activities, Voice Area Coordinator, and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Grambling State University. An accomplished educator, conductor, and international presenter, Dr. Harper earned his Ph.D. in Music Education with a cognate in Choral Conducting from the University of Memphis.

CORDARA HARPER NAMED ASST. PROFESSOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION, DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY CHOIRS AT GRAMBLING STATE.

In October 2022, Grambling State University appointed acclaimed musician Cordara Harper as Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of University Choirs. To mark his new role and the choir’s 75th anniversary, Harper organized a celebratory concert titled “Be Optimistic: A Celebration of 75 Years of Singing Our Songs,” held on October 17 at the Conrad Hutchinson Jr. Performing Arts Center. The event featured a diverse repertoire, including spirituals, baroque, classical, and R&B pieces, and paid tribute to past directors, notably Professor Robert Williams, with a performance of his arrangement of “Wade in De Water.” Harper’s extensive background includes teaching at various educational levels, advanced studies in music education and choral conducting, and active involvement in music organizations.
